Phipps clients win at the Green Awards!

Monday night saw the Drinks Business hold its annual Green Awards, which were held this year at one of London’s coolest new bars, The Folly, in the heart of the city. With two of our clients up for awards –Cono Sur for ‘Best Green Company’ and Sainsbury’s for ‘Best Green Retailer’ – we made our way through rush hour traffic to join the great and the green from across the trade for the much anticipated announcement of this year’s winners.

The calibre of the nominees was exceptional as ever, with strong competition for Cono Sur coming from British brewery Adnams, following their ‘road to sustainability’ campaign and renewable gas achievements in 2010. Impressive as Adnams were, the judges could not ignore the huge environmental achievements of Cono Sur in 2010 and they were announced as the winner, much to our delight (not to mention that of Cono Sur’s brand manager, Nicola Hale!)

There were more whoops still to come from the Phipps team when five minutes later, Sainsbury’s was awarded the Green Retailer of the Year award!  This was a much deserved win and the Sainsbury’s team in attendance were thrilled to have been recognised by the trade for the great lengths they have gone to over the past year to address green issues.

So with the night proving to be a great start to the awards season for Phipps’ clients, we’re keeping our (green) fingers crossed for more awards later in the year!

Cono Sur Green Cooks Search winner crowned

After six weeks, 45 entries and a multitude of delicious, sustainable recipes, the Cono Sur Green Cooks Search announced its winner as Anna Garrard from London. Anna’s slow cooked pheasant with apple and bacon stuffing wowed the judges with top Bristolian chef Barny Haughton commenting: “This recipe ticks all the boxes of organic, local & seasonal (and in this case, wild as well), thanks Anna – I wish more chefs cooked like this!”  The talented home cook has won a weekend break for two at The Victoria, including a delicious, seasonal meal cooked by Paul Merrett and paired with Carbon Neutral®  wines from Cono Sur’s award-winning range. The judging panel, consisting of Paul Merrett, Jamie Grainger-Smith and Barny Haughton, had their work cut out with some exceptional recipes being submitted over the weeks and Cono Sur were extremely impressed by the amount of eco-cooks throughout Britain!

The Cono Sur Green Cooks website is now a fantastic resource for those looking for sustainable and seasonal recipes to brighten up the gloomy, winter nights, - check out the website now and get inspired!

Fancy a ride (Cono) Sur?

Adolfo and Susy Atkins take a ride to the generic tasting in a Pedicab

Phipps was out and about with new client Cono Sur last week and what a week it was!

Cono Sur’s head winemaker and general manager, Adolfo  Hurtado, flew over on Monday for a whirlwind week, which saw him celebrate his 40th birthday with a Pinot Noir party at St Pancras Grand, speak at the Harpers Global Wine Conference, host an Asian food and aromatic wine matching tasting for sommeliers and bloggers at the Andaz Hotel,  host a table at the IWC dinner, man the Cono Sur stand at the annual Wines of Chile tasting, visit Cheshire as guest of honour at a dinner organised by independent mechant Corks Out, wine and dine journalists at various London establishments and even take a spin with wine writer Susy Atkins and Tesco buyer James Griswood in our specially created Cono Sur pedicabs (which were in OLN editor Rosie Davenport’s words,  “the talk of the office”!) Phew!

Phipps accompanied Adolfo for much of the week and although it was a fun and varied week, we were well and truly ready for the weekend!
