Tapas, Tio Pepe, The Table…and Phipps of course!

To celebrate the launch of the Tio Pepe Tapas Trail, we invited renowned food writer Elisabeth Luard to Jerez to investigate the region’s tapas and sherry on behalf of The Table supplement.

We ate sugary churros with hot chocolate in the bustling market square, visited the Gonzalez Byass bodega to take in the heady scents of sherry and brandy, and the numerous barrels signed by everyone from Picasso to Steven Spielberg. We drank ice cold fino in open fronted tapas bars where the seafood was handed over wrapped in white paper, before being eaten with wedges of lemon. Ever the food adventurers, we even tried deep fried sea anemone (not for the faint of heart)!

After all that hard work (ahem!) we read Elisabeth’s evocative piece for The Times back in the usual hustle and bustle of central London and almost imagined we were back in Jerez, drinking sherry and eating great food…almost.
